Cosmetic surgical enhancement of one’s torso aims to restore youthful contours and modify body shape which is undesirable for the particular individual. Changes due to ageing and pregnancy may be reversed and youthful body contours restored without altering natural appearance and function.
Tummy tuck operations are done to remove prominent unwanted abdominal bulges, excess skin and unsightly scars. A full tummy tuck involves repair of the lax and stretched muscle layers in conjunction with removal of excess skin and careful placement of scars to restore a youthful, athletic appearance to the abdomen. Strategic liposuction is often done to enhance the result.

If removal of a lower tummy prominence and unsightly scars below the belly button is required, a lesser tummy tuck can be done with shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery. Strategic liposuction is often combined to enhance the result.

Abdominal prominence due to fat rather than lax abdominal muscles may be removed by liposuction via small incisions with short hospital stay and quick recovery. Abdominal skin has to be sufficiently elastic to contract after liposuction.

Unsighly abdominal scars with overhanging skin folds may be excised to restore a flatter tummy contour. Scar revision is often done in conjunction with abdominal liposuction or a tummy tyck. This operation can be done under conscious sedation on an outpatient basis.
Unwanted fat collections and folds under the chin, in the neck and face can be removed by careful liposuction, often done in conjunction with fat grafting or facelift operations. This is usuallt done under conscious sedation on an outpatient basis.
Liposuction involves aspirating fat through minimal skin puncture incisions in order to reduce and contour unwanted bulges and restore balanced proportions to one’s figure.

In addition to reduction of inner thigh bulges by liposuction, excess inner thigh skin may be excised and lifted with the scars hidden in the groin and buttock folds. This operation involves general anaesthetic and overnight stay in hospital. Recovery to careful daily activity takes 2-3 weeks whereas physical activity and sport is not recommended for 6 weeks.
Liposuction involves aspirating fat through minimal skin puncture incisions in order to reduce and contour unwanted bulges and restore balanced proportions to one’s figure. This leaves minimal scarring, is predictable and safe to do. Modern liposuction involves injecting tumescent fluid beforehand followed by multiple layer liposuction using thin cannulae to remove the fat, which gives better and more dramatic results with minimal irregularities and complications afterwards.

Buttock shape may be improved and contoured by liposuction and sagging buttocks lifted by an open buttock lift operation, usually in patients after excessive weight loss.
Buttock enlargement by injecting a patients own aspirated fat is possible. Buttock implants are not recommended.

Excess upper arm skin can be excised to reduce arm flabbiness if the skin is too inelastic to retract following liposuction. This operation is usually done under local anaestetic or conscious sedation on an outpatient basis.

Ageing results in thinning of tissue on the back of hands which produces a “skeletonised” appearance which some patients find unsightly. Injection of patients own fat or hyaluronic acid fillers restores youthful plumpness to back of the hands.

The aspirated fat can used as fat grafts to fill other areas like the buttocks, cheeks and lips.
WHAT OPERATION IS REQUIRED FOR ME?
The extent of liposuction to be done is determined at the preoperative consultation, as the size of fatty deposits and skin elasticity vary widely in different anatomical areas and from patient to patient. The operation is particularly well suited for patients who are at their correct weight but have isolated pockets of unflattering fat deposits.
Commonly treated areas are the abdomen, inner and outer thighs, buttocks, hip/waist rolls, knees and neck. Upper arms, calves, ankles and back folds can also be contoured. Neck and facial liposuction is commonly done in conjunction with facial rejuvenation procedures. In men commonly treated areas are the abdomen, waist/hip rolls, chest fat collections and enlarged breast areas.
THE OPERATION
Depending on the extent of the liposuction and patient requirements, the operations vary from smaller procedures done in the rooms under local anaesthetic to large operations under general anaesthetic in hospital.
After the liposuction a support garment is fitted to be worn for 6 weeks. Patients stay in hospital for the operation day only or overnight if more extensive lipo is done.
Downtime is short and most patients can return to work after 2-3 days in their garments. Physical exercise is discouraged for 4 weeks after the operation.
