Dr Jan Kleynhans is an experienced aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon practicing in Somerset West in the Western Cape, 30 min drive from Cape Town. His surgery is at Arun Place in Somerset West adjacent to Somerset Aesthetic Surgery clinic and Mediclinic Vergelegen. Cosmetic operations are generally done at Somerset Aesthetic Surgery clinic and reconstructive plastic surgery services provided at Mediclinic Vergelegen. Dr Kleynhans consults in Paarl on Thursdays and operates at Mediclinic Paarl on alternate weeks.

 

Dr Kleynhans has been in private plastic surgery practice since 1988 and has extensive experience of aesthetic surgery as well as a wide range of reconstructive surgery disciplines and is committed to excellence in standards of surgical care, patient safety, confidentiality and ethics in medicine.

He is registered with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa as a physician, is a member of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of South Africa and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.


Dr Kleynhans obtained his MBChB degree from the University of Pretoria in 1975 and a M Med specialist degree at the University of Cape Town in 1985 after completing residency at Groote Schuur Hospital.

 

Following two years as a plastic surgery consultant at Tygerberg hospital in Cape Town and a 6 month study tour to major plastic surgery centers the USA, Canada and Europe, he settled in private practice in Pietermaritzburg KwaZulu-Natal, to pursue his interest in craniofacial surgery. He was involved in and managed the Pietermaritzburg Craniofacial Unit until its integration with the Plastic Surgery Department at the University of Natal Medical School in 1997.

 

Hereafter he concentrated on aesthetic surgery, breast reconstruction and general reconstructive plastic surgery until relocating to Somerset West in 2010. The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International awarded him the Paul Harris fellowship in 1997 in recognition for his service to the community in the craniofacial field which was accepted on behalf of the craniofacial team.

The Kleynhans family relocated from Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu–Natal to Somerset West in the Western Cape in 2011 to be closer to their family and pursue  long term plans in the Cape.
