Facial surgical enhancement aims to restore and modify undesirable facial features towards a perceived aesthetic ideal. Changes due to facial ageing can be reversed and natural youthful features restored without altering natural appearance and function.

FACIAL REJUVENATION PROCEDURES
Face lift / Neck lift

Facelift operations are done to remove skin laxity and jowl formation of the lower face and jaw line, soften folds adjacent to the mouth corners and nose and to restore volume to the cheeks and cheekbone areas. A neck lift is part of a facelift and will tighten lax skin and muscle bands in the neck. Most facelifts are done by short scar technique and deep layer plication. Patients’ own fat can be injected to enhance the cheekbone area, restore plumpness to the cheeks and soften cheek/lip and other facial folds. Careful liposuction and fat filling can reduce jowls and folds below the mouth. Facelifts are often combined with eyelid surgery and brow lift to rejuvenate the upper face as well. Most of these operations may be done under local anaesthetic with sedation or under conscious sedation administered by an anaesthetist. Combinations of facial operations take longer and require deeper sedation or general anaesthesia. Overnight stay is usually required.

Blepharoplasty/Eyelid lift

Sagging upper eyelid folds as well as lower eyelid puffiness and lax skin may be removed by a blepharoplasty operation. Hollowness of the upper lid and hollow grooves under the eyes can be filled by injection of the patients own fat. This requires local anaesthetic with light sedation or conscious sedation administered by an anaesthetist. Overnight stay is rarely required.

Brow lift

Sagging brows, especially the outer brow, can be lifted and shaped and forehead lines softened by open brow lift via an incision in or at the hairline. Some patients can be helped by Botox injections alone or with Botox injections in conjunction with an outer brow lift operation via shorter incisions. Injections of patients own fat may help to widen the space between the brows and soften frown lines as well as fill hollow temples.

Facial and neck liposuction

Unwanted fat collections and folds under the chin, in the neck and face can be removed by careful liposuction, often done in conjunction with fat grafting or facelift operations. This is usuallt done under conscious sedation on an outpatient basis.

Facial fat filling

Following localised liposuction in an appropriate area to harvest fat, one’s own fat can be prepared and injected into areas of the face that requiring filling. Fat filling is used most commonly for cheek/cheek bone enhancement and filling the hollow folds under the eyelids. Fat can be used to enhance the chin, lips, upper eyelids and fill hollowness in the temples and forehead.

Midface lift

This infrequently performed operation lifts the cheeks to enhance the cheekbone area and soften the nasolabial or cheek/lip fold. A similar result can usually be obtained by fat grafting injections into the cheeks and nasolabiallines which is less invasive with shorter downtime.

Lip dermal grafts

Skin or dermal grafts can be inserted to fill the lips or to enhance individual features of lips. Dermal grafts is long lasting as opposed to temporary hyaluronic acid fillers.

Upper lip lift

Long upper lips can be reduced and lifted by removing skin under the nose, hiding the scar in the shadow of the nose.

Botox injections

Botox injections weaken nonessential muscles and therefore soften frown lines, forehead wrinkles and laughter lines. Botox treatment leaves minimal bruising and is a “lunch time “ procedure. The effect of Botox is temporary and repeated injections at 4 monthly intervals are required for longterm improvement.

Hyaluronic acid fillers

Injections of synthetic hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm/Restylane) may be used to fill cheeks, hollowness under the eyes, unwanted facial folds, wrinkles and lined lips. Lips are filled to increase their volume as well as to soften lip lines by stretching the overlying skin. Injection of facial fillers may produce swelling for 3 days or bruising which may last a week. Patients require ice pack application for several hours after injections to lessen the risk of swelling and bruising.

RHINOPLASTY/NOSE JOB

Cosmetic rhinoplasty or “ nose job “ aims to alter the shape and size of the nose and improve nasal appearance in order to restore balance and harmony to one’s face.

CHIN AUGMENTATION

A receding chin may be augmented by placing a small silicone implant on the chin or enhanced by injecting fat into the chin button.

OTOPLASTY/EAR CORRECTION

Prominent ears may be corrected by an otoplasty operation to set the ears back against the head in a natural way.

RHINOPLASTY

As the nose is the central feature of one’s face, nasal shape and size is an important determinant of overall facial appearance. Some patients are concerned about the size, shape or a perceived deformity of their nose. Breathing problems are sometimes associated with nasal deformity.

At consultation the concerns you have with your nose will be discussed and analyzed, where after an operation plan will be proposed to surgically correct and improve the specific aspects of your nose that you are concerned with. The operation will be discussed in detail including the anaesthetic, theatre options, recovery and cost. A realistic expectation of what can be done and a clear idea of the expected outcome of the operation reduces the possibility of unhappiness with the result.

Rhinoplasty operations adjust the nasal skeleton by removing or adding to the bone and cartilage of the nose.  Most rhinoplasty operations involve the nasal airways and care is taken not to compromise breathing whilst improving the shape.

Rhinoplasties are usually done under general anaesthetic and patients often stay in hospital overnight.

After the operation the nose is blocked with nasal packs which are removed within 4 to 24 hours. Tape and a plastic splint is usually applied to the nasal bridge for a week.

Most patients look quite presentable and return to social activity and work within 1- 2 weeks after the operation.
